Steve Buttry

Legislator, top senior aide, and current lobbyist on Capitol Hill, Steve Buttry has made a profound impact on Tennessee state government for over 30 years. Steve’s keen knowledge of how government operates on all levels enables him to be a leader with the legislative process and with challenging issues.
Steve served with distinction as State Representative from 1998 through 2004 and represented Knoxville’s 18th District in the State House. Steve served on the Transportation, Consumer and Employee Affairs, and Public Transportation Committees, and was elected by his peers to serve as Secretary of the Republican Caucus. In 2004, Steve was recognized as Legislator of the Year for his stalwart work by the Tennessee Network of Community Organizations (TNCO).
Previously, Steve served in state government as Special Assistant to the Commissioner at the Tennessee Department of Transportation focusing on infrastructure policy, legislative liaison activity, and statewide structure building.
Steve’s extensive portfolio of clients serving as a contract lobbyist reaches all sectors of government. He has broad business experience that covers the utilities and healthcare sectors as an account executive, project manager and CEO. Steve worked on behalf of Connected Tennessee to expand broadband internet access and adoption in East Tennessee. In 2020, Steve was given the honor to serve as President of the Tennessee Lobbyists Association.
Previously Buttry was with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Inc, as a sales executive and co-founded First Response of Tennessee, a security solutions innovation company.
A native East Tennessean, Steve received his bachelor’s degree with a major in political science from East Tennessee State University. He has a son Zachary.
